Velocity 2025: A Day of Vision, Data & Latino Leadership

September 29, 2025

Last Friday, I was invited by Ford Motor Company, along with several prominent business leaders, to attend the Velocity Conference in Los Angeles. The event took place from September 24–26, 2025, at the JW Marriott & Ritz-Carlton, L.A. Live, as part of Ford’s commitment to highlight Latinx leadership and influence in the New Mainstream Economy.

One of the highlights was a candid conversation with Joaquín Nuño-Whelan, newly appointed President of Lincoln, and Sol Trujillo, founder of Velocity. The pair shared insights into Joaquín’s trajectory: from his family’s immigrant roots to building a distinguished career in the automotive sector, and ultimately being tapped by Ford to lead its luxury Lincoln brand. Joaquín’s story is compelling, not only for its professional breadth but also for its human component. He brings more than 25 years of global experience in vehicle and technology development to his new role leading Lincoln’s global operations.

Before joining Ford in 2024, he was Vehicle Program Director for full-size utilities, overseeing important models like the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition. He also served in leadership roles at Rivian and spent more than two decades at General Motors, where he contributed to premium vehicle development efforts.

During the panel, Joaquín traced his family’s immigrant roots, spoke of the aspiration and sacrifice that preceded his path, and described what it meant to be selected by Ford to lead Lincoln, especially as a Latino in a high-profile leadership position. His transparency and humility made the discussion both powerful and approachable.

After the panel, we mingled, snapped photos, and headed over to the Ford Pro exhibit, where a truck was on display and attendees were treated to giveaways and swag. Each of us walked away with a bag full of goodies — a fun and memorable touch from Ford.

Overall, this conference reinforced what many of us already know: voices that reflect every part of the American story must be elevated, because we all rise together when we focus our efforts on authenticity, belonging, and leadership. From entertainment to entrepreneurship to consumer power, we are shaping this country’s present and future. With a collective spending power estimated at $4 trillion annually, our community is a driving force in America’s economy.

Thank you, Ford, for a day of inspiration, and for continuing to elevate voices that must be heard.
